Locating Background Information

A visit to the Reference section of the Library at this point can be worthwhile. Dictionaries, encyclopaedias, atlases, chronologies and other reference sources can provide basic background information including:

Dates, biographical details, geographic information, outlines of events, statistics

It is important to develop a basic knowledge of the relevant facts and issues.

There is a large range of "hard copy" reference sources which are available.

The number of web-based reference sources is multiplying rapidly. These materials include: dictionaries, thesaurus, encyclopedias, concordances, biographical sources, as well as calculators, calendars and tables. Remember, it's important to evaluate the authority, objectivity, coverage, accuracy and currency of web resources, before making use of them.
